BILL 146 – MOTOR VEHICLE ACT (AMENDED)
Members are advised that Bill 146, Motor Vehicle Act (amended) which was introduced in the General Assembly on May 1, 2008, received Royal Assent on May 27, 2008.
Bill 146 adds a new section 273 authorizing the Registrar, any official of the Department of Transportation, or any peace officer, to seize and impound motor vehicles under prescribed circumstances including, for example, the fact that the operator of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license. SYNOPSIS
The “Najeeb Green-Lewis Law,” requires motor vehicle rental companies to confirm driving status of driver as condition of renting certain vehicles.
STATEMENT
This bill prohibits the renting of a motor vehicle, used for transportation of persons or property other than commercial freight, to any individual whose driver’s license is currently suspended or revoked. It requires motor vehicle rental companies to confirm the current driver status of any renter or other proposed driver of a rental vehicle |
